Why we designed the DVI?
DVI is short for Digital Visual Interface. It is the standard interface designed by the DDWG (Digital Display Working Group) constituted by some company such as Silicon Image、Intel、Compaq、IBM、HP、NEC、Fujitsu etc. It is basic from the technique of Silicon Image’s Interface PanaLink and the basic electric connect of TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling). TMDS is a sub signal system and can code pels date and by transferring. The digital signal from video card is send by the sender’s coding according the TMDS protocol and then through the TMDS channel to the receiver. After decoding it is transmitted to display equipment. A DVI display system includes a sender and a receiver. The first one is original form the signal which can set in the video CMOS chip and also can be in the PCB; While the receiver is a circuitry of the LCD, which can receive the digital signal and let it decoded to send to the digital circuitry, after the both steps, the signal from video card becomes the picture on the display.
Considering the problem compatibility, now the video card is using the DVI-I interface commonly. In this way we can put that interface connected in the common VGA interface. While the display with DVI interface use the DVI-D, that display also with the VGA interface. Therefore, we need not the display with analog signal DVI-I. But there is few exception, some display only has the DVI-I but without VGA. There are two advantages by using the display equipment with DVI.
一、High Speed
DVI transfers the digital signal. The picture information need not any transfer and it will be sent to the video equipment directly. Comparing to the way of Digital-Simulation-Digital, it saves a lot of time. So the speed is high and can avoid the phenomena of the shadows along with the picture. The DVI is digital transferring and there is no signal be reduced. The color is becoming more rich and pure.
二、Clear Picture
The binary system digital signal is transferred in computer. While using VGA interface connect with LCD, we need put the signal transfer to the R、G、B there color signal and the synchronization signal by the D/A transfer in video card. Then the signal need the relevant A/D transfer to change the analog signal to digital signal and send to LCD to show the picture. The above D/A and A/D transfer can not avoid some disturbance and losing, which can lead to the error of picture. The DVI need not so much transfer and avoid the signal losing, which improves the picture to be more clear and more rich.
